A tragic fire

A tragedy in Europe took place not more than a month ago. The Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris located in Paris, France. It is one of the most beautiful medieval structures in the world. Often referred to simply as the Notre Dame, it has been named one of the most finest examples of French gothic architecture. Tourists come from all over the world to witness its abundant beauty. The familiar landmark is also extremely old. This institution was originally constructed in the year 1136, and this year will mark the 886th anniversary of the cathedral. Alas, all things built must break at some point. Along with the roofing and side of the Notre Dame, history has perished along with it. The fire that began took place on Monday, April 15-16th, 2019.

French president, Emmanuel Macron, has assured everyone that the Notre-Dame will and should be restored in an estimated five years. Some experts say it’s not worth it. But the journey to rebuild has begun.

After 886 years of withstanding storms, rain, all sorts of natural disasters, a fire threatens its beauty. And although the structure is saved, it will be closed to the public as they continue on construction. The price has been paid, though, and all of France mourns the loss. However, one question remains unanswered: what caused the fire?

Fire alarms went off at 6 o’clock p.m. in the cathedral, local French newspaper, Le Parisien, reported. Then, at 6:43 p.m., a fire crept up the building. Le Parisien explained that the wrong fire alarm went off. “Authorities in Paris are still trying to piece together exactly what happened… they have started questioning” (CBS News), says CBS News.

In addition to the damage, the impressive rose window that had graced the cathedral and awed tourists for so many years was damaged in the fire. The window is an amazing feat of architecture; each section of the glass shows a scene, complete with bright colors and depictions of saints.

All in all, the Notre Dame Fire was a tragic, unbelievable event.
