On November 5th, 2019, fans of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series were excited to see that the 14th installment was released after more than a year of speculation. The series, by New York Times bestselling author Jeff Kinney, is about a teenage boy named Greg Heffley who finds himself thrust into middle school where kids share the hallways with others who are triple their size (and no, not the teachers). Throughout the series, Greg has seen himself nearly shipped off to military school, snowed in, stuck on the longest car ride ever, and making a scary movie. The most recent book, Wrecking Ball, is the one we will be covering today.

In Wrecking Ball, Greg’s family inherits some money and decides to make some changes to their house. Unfortunately, they discover some challenges, such as rotten wood and toxic mold, while angry neighbors complain about loud noises. Soon, the Heffley family is presented with a choice: are they going to stay, or is it time to consider moving?

These are our thoughts about the book.

Did you enjoy the book? What was your favorite part?
Julie: Yes. When the Heffley family found out they attended the wrong funeral.

Jack: Yes. When Greg got stuck on his roof while cleaning the gutters.

What was your least favorite part?

Julie: At the end, where everything started going wrong.

Jack: Honestly, I don’t have a least favorite part!

What do you want to see in a future book?

Julie: Greg attends high school and the pig comes back.

Jack: I would like to see Greg going to high school.

We would give this a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
