Windows Art Class

Windows Art Class

Lauren Toole and Avery Derstine

As many of you know, GW provides many wonderful electives for students. These electives include chorus, cycles, band, and Windows Art. Most electives involve concerts or showcases. However, it has come to our awareness that most students and teachers have little knowledge about Windows Art. Windows Art is the only elective that does not accept all applications. In order to apply, you must submit a portfolio. The art teachers will review your portfolio and later inform you if you were accepted. Although we have an art show, there is so much more that goes on in Windows Art!

To start, Windows Art students do many projects throughout the year. People seem to believe these projects have to do with painting or drawing. However, this is not the case. Our projects consist of many different styles, tools, and types. For example, this year we made a room out of ink and watercolor. We have also carved stamps out of linoleum. On top of this, all of our projects are not all on paper. Right now, we are working on clay houses. As you can see, during Windows Art, we work on a variety of projects.

Furthermore, there is a lot of work that goes into this class. Even with projects, we have to do a lot of homework assignments. We have homework that we complete every one to three weeks. Assignments can include drawing multiple objects or using colored pencils. Homework takes quite some time to complete and most students put a lot of effort into their drawings. Although homework may not be the most fun, it helps all the students improve week after week. As you look back on old assignments, you can see that there are immense differences from month to month. Overall, homework is a big part of Windows art, which helps the students improve.

In the end, there is much more to Windows Art. Throughout the year, we work on many projects and homework assignments. Students have many opportunities in this elective that can help them advance. Windows Art is a fun and amazing elective where students can learn to become great artists.
