Monday, January 21st is a national holiday, a day set aside to honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In addition to his powerful legacy as the most important figure in the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. King has left us a “word legacy”; a collection of inspirational quotes about justice, and service, and love.

As a way for the GW Community to honor and celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. each student received a simple post-it note containing one of King’s many inspiring and thought provoking quotes. Students and staff were encouraged to place this post-it on agendas, binders, or on the outside of lockers, in an effort to help GWMS reflect upon Dr. King’s words throughout the day.

Allow these words to spark a conversation…in school, in your home, or in your heart! And ask yourself, “How am I keeping the dream alive?”

Below are some images of the post it notes found around the school on Friday.

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
