Bucket Drummers

Bucket+Drummers

On December 20, 2018, the 2018-2019 George Washington Middle School Bucket Drummers took to the stage to perform. The show included songs Pompeii by Bastille, Have It All by Jason Mraz, and some different drum beats played by the group. Overall, it was a huge success. The idea of bucket drumming grew originally in 1990 from a 13 year old boy by the name of Larry Wright. When he was still a young age, his mother passed away. This led him to move in with his grandmother and start drumming on the streets and subways of New York City. Here at GWMS, we have a group of 12 students in bucket drumming. You must be in band, but you don’t have to be a percussionist in order to audition. This years club consists of people who play trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, trombone, flute, and a few percussionists. There are also people from all three grade levels. Because of this, there is a large group of diverse talent. From there, the ensemble met for about 10 weeks to practice.

The next step for the members is a performance at the Lincoln Center in March. They will continue to practice every other week until the day of the show. This is something new and has never yet been done by GWMS. It is a big moment for them and band director Mr. Vigiletti. We are all very excited and look forward to it. After that, there is next year to look forward to, where we never know what Mr. Vigiletti will come up with to impress us yet again..
